After a huge amount of effort by David Broughton of our club, which included almost continuous email correspondence with India, the Rotary Flame initiated by the Rotary Club of Madras, will arrive for a celebratory meeting of the Rotary Club of Bath at Lansdown Golf Club Bath on 31st March. David not only organised this but also orchestrated the movement of the Flame around the South of England
This event will be graced by the presence of DG Judy Barnard-Jones accompanied by her husband Keith, both of whom have played a huge part in the Polio Eradication project.
Mary Berry, who suffered polio as a child and thankfully made an almost complete recovery, will be our special guest along with the Mayor of Bath and representatives of Bath’s Indian community.
While organising this has been a huge effort, it is nothing compared with the early travels of the flame from Madras to Peshawar, across the Khyber Pass to Kabul and from there to Sidney.
Publicising this event has provided a base for bringing the End Polio Now campaign back into the forefront of public awareness.
