The famous Devizes Rotary Club Chili was again in high demand at the recent 2016 Devizes Beer Festival. After a dodgy start when we had a few spots of rain as we were erecting our two gazebos (or should I say Alan T’s gazebos!) the sun thankfully came out and we were treated to some glorious weather for the rest of the day.
Once the crowds began to arrive the chili began to flow freely, and the big question became
who would dare to have (and eat!) the most chilis on top of their portion? A number dared to take one, a few took two, but only a handful took three. However one brave (or foolish?) man actually took four. The next question is did he actually eat them all and if he did, how did he feel the next morning?!
In any case we got a huge number of compliments and many of our customers came back for 2nd, 3rd and in one case 4th helpings, a great testament to the skills of our Chief Chef Colin who clearly worked his magic once again.
Meanwhile Geoff led the set up and manning of our second stall, serving bottled water plus snacks such as crisps and pork scratchings. The stall additionally took over selling hot dogs when our next door neighbours – the guides – finished serving theirs in the early evening. And great hot dogs they were too!
So, a fantastic day was had by all, and many thanks are due to everyone who made the day such a success, including our terrific Friends of Devizes Rotary who came along to help.
Best wishes,
Cliff
