‘Water the Essential’

Dear fellow Rotarians and friends

As many of you may be aware our Rotary Water-Survival Box has been adopted in support of a photographic project ‘Water the Essential’  by New Zealand Photographer Vaughan James.

The combined project was the subject of an exhibition in the Shapero Gallery, Mayfair, London between 12 and 30 September. The video was made by Rotarians Francesca Albini and Maria Giovanna Audia and as well as highlighting Vaughan’s stunning water themed photographs the video includes interviews with Vaughan James, Rotary District Governor Mike Hodge, and Hugo Pike representing the WSB project.

During the period that the exhibition was open Hurricane Maria crashed through the Caribbean archipelago creating further devastation to that caused by Hurricane Irma just 10 days previously. 500 Water-Survival Boxes have been made available for distribution by members of the Rotary District 7020 Hurricane Recovery Committee and are being supplied to ‘families most in need’ on Anguilla, the British Virgin Islands, St Maarten and the Turks and Caicos Islands. Past District Governor Rupert Ross is co-ordinating the operation from his base on St Croix in the US Virgin Islands.

The cost of the consignment (the boxes, water purification kits, other essential survival items and air freight charges) is some £75,000 and we urgently need to attract significant donations to cover the cost of the next batch of 500 boxes. Online donations can be made at www.watersurvivalbox.org or cheques made out to Worldwaterworks Limited can be sent to Broadway House, Third Avenue, Westfield Trading Estate, Midsomer Norton BA3 4XD.

Please feel free to post this to your circle of friends and invite them to repost it to theirs – and so on – not unlike the ripple effect for which Water is the Essential!
