Singing for Life Concert in aid of Radiotherapy Appeal

Imagine being given news that will change not only your life but the lives of the people you love.

Imagine being given news which means you’ll need to spend countless hours travelling to and from hospital to receive treatment in the hope it will save your life.

Every month, almost 300 people are given a diagnosis of cancer at Great Western Hospital, and have to make the journey to Oxford, Bath or Cheltenham to receive their radiotherapy treatment.

The Rotary Club of Devizes are therefore partnering with Dolcipani Italian Bakery and Coffee Shop in Devizes to help change that by raising cash to help buy equipment for the new Radiotherapy Unit in Swindon.

For details of how you can make a donation or buy raffle tickets for the Singing For Life fund-raising concert to be held on Thursday 30th March at Dolcipani in Devizes, go to https://rotaryclubofdevizes.wordpress.com/donat/. Please buy your tickets this week  as we’ll be holding the draw this coming Saturday to see who will be the lucky ones attending the concert.

This is your chance to support the biggest improvement in cancer care in Swindon in a generation. Thank you for your support.

Hackers try to spoil party for Devizes Rotary radiotherapy fundraising evening

The following has been taken from a story today by Joanne Moore in the Gazette and Herald:

ORGANISERS of a charity music evening fear their fundraising efforts might be in vain after hackers ruined a website page set up by Devizes Rotary to sell tickets for the event.

Devizes Rotary president Cliff Evans was shocked when the page allowing people to make donations and win tickets for the evening at Dolcipani Italian Bakery and Coffee Shop in Devizes to raise money for the Brighter Futures Appeal at Great Western Hospital, Swindon, on March 30 was defaced. He said: “Until yesterday all had been going well, but then disaster struck when the above website page was one of around 1.5m pages hacked.”

A new web page has been created by leaving the ‘e’ off the word donate. People should now go to www.rotaryclubofdevizes.wordpress.com/donat to make donations and buy tickets for the event.

Cianni Campanella, owner of Dolcipani Italian Bakery and Coffee Shop in Devizes

The evening called ‘Singing For Life’ will feature cafe owner Giovanni Campanella who was diagnosed with cancer nearly two years ago and has been helped by specialists at Great Western Hospital. He said: “I was diagnosed with stage three lung cancer in April 2015, and without the care and support of the Great Western Hospital I wouldn’t be here today. It’s my small way of thanking them for everything they’ve done for me and everyone like me. I’ve been playing guitar for fifty years, so I’m excited about the concert and want to offer our guests the chance to immerse themselves in an authentic Sicilian night in the warm atmosphere of our Mediterranean coffee shop.”

Singing baker organises fundraising concert for hospital

CAFE owner Giovanni Campanella, who was diagnosed with cancer nearly two years ago, is staging a music night to raise money for a cause close to his heart. Mr Campanella, who runs Dolcipani Italian bakery and coffee shop in Devizes, has joined forces with Devizes Rotary Club to collect money for the Brighter Futures Appeal at Great Western Hospital, Swindon, on March 30.

Mr Campanella and Vincenzo Bua will perform from 7.30pm to 9pm at the coffee shop in Old Swan Yard in a concert called Singing For Life to raise money for a new radiotherapy centre in Swindon. He said: “‘I was diagnosed with stage three lung cancer in April 2015, and without the care and support of the Great Western Hospital I wouldn’t be here today.

Devizes Rotary Club president Cliff Evans said: “It’s a privilege for the Rotary Club of Devizes to have been invited by Giovanni to help organise the event, and thereby raise much needed money for the GWH Radiotherapy Appeal, which currently stands at £1.3m of a £2.9m target. For every £14 donated, the donor’s name will be entered into a lottery to win one of just 30 exclusive places at the unique concert, and because Dolcipani is covering all costs, every penny of their donation will go to the appeal.” Those who donate but do not win a ticket will get a free cup of coffee on their next visit to the cafe.

Among the guests on the evening will be Mr Campanella’s consultant Dr. Omar Khan.

Mr Campanella is no stranger to performing as he was a regional finalist on Britain’s Best Bakery in 2014 and also appeared on screen with the late Terry Wogan when he visited Devizes for Terry and Mason’s Great Food Trip. He will be preparing a finger food buffet for the evening which will feature Mr Campanella singing and on guitar and Mr Bua providing vocals and bass.
