Devizes Area Final of the Rotary Young Chef Competition 2017-18

Following the successful completion of the heats over the past month or so, last Monday (27th November) the Devizes Area Final of the Rotary Young Chef Competition 2017-18 took place at the Farm Cookery School near Bromham.

I’m delighted to say that Harrison Damon from Lavington School was the winner, and has now been invited to go forward to the Area Final which will take place at the King Alfred School in Highbridge on Saturday 3^rd February 2018.

Congratulationd to all the contestants for putting on a terrific show!

 

Another event in support of the Brighter Futures Radiotherapy Appeal

Earlier this year Devizes Rotary helped Gianni Campanella, of Dolicpani Bakery and Coffee Shop in Devizes, to raise just over £3,000 for the Brighter Futures Radiotherapy Appeal through the Singing for Life Concert – click HERE for details.

At the end of July the appeal had hit £1.7million, which means that with less than 12 months to go the Appeal still needs to raise a further £1.2 million to turn this dream into a reality.

To that end I’d like encourage you all to buy tickets to the ‘Bard Heads’ event which will take place in Ramsbury at7:30pm on Saturday 23rd September 2017.

Jules Hobbs, who lives in Rowde, will be performing her own show to say thank you for her Dad’s life, and all profits raised will go to the Radiotherapy Appeal.

Devizes Lions and Rotary support the Devizes Opportunity Centre

Back in May the sun shone on the annual Charity Golf Day which was jointly organised by Devizes Lions and Rotary – click HERE for details. As a result a total of £3,390 was raised for the Devizes Opportunity Centre which helps children with special needs and their families.

Last month members of both Lions and Rotary visited the Centre to formally present the cheque to staff at the Centre.

The above photograph was taken during the visit, and shows Cliff Evans (Rotary) and Roger Stratton (Lions) holding the cheque while surrounded by fellow Lions and Rotary members, plus a selection of staff, parents and children from the Centre.
